4Ἵππων Κρατιστολέω Ξυπεταιὼν καὶ οἱ συμπρόεδροι· Θράσων
5Θράσωνος Ἀνακαιεὺς εἶπεν·
6ἐπειδὴ Ζήνων Μνασέου Κιτιεὺς ἔτη πολλὰ κατὰ φιλοσοφίαν
7ἐν τῇ πόλει γενόμενος ἔν τε τοῖς λοιποῖς ἀνὴρ ἀγαθὸς ὢν διετέλεσε
8καὶ τοὺς εἰς σύστασιν αὐτῷ τῶν νέων πορευομένους παρακαλῶν
9ἐπ’ ἀρετὴν καὶ σωφροσύνην παρώρμα πρὸς τὰ βέλτιστα, παρά–
10δειγμα τὸν ἴδιον βίον ἐκθεὶς ἅπασιν ἀκόλουθον ὄντα τοῖς λόγοις
11οἷς διελέγετο, τύχῃ ἀγαθῇ, δεδόχθαι τῷ δήμῳ· ἐπαινέσαι μὲν
12Ζήνωνα Μνασέου Κιτιέα καὶ στεφανῶσαι χρυσῷ στεφάνῳ κατὰ
13τὸν νόμον ἀρετῆς ἕνεκεν καὶ σωφροσύνης, οἰκοδομῆσαι δὲ αὐτῷ
14καὶ τάφον ἐπὶ τοῦ Κεραμεικοῦ δημοσίᾳ· τῆς δὲ ποιήσεως τοῦ
15στεφάνου καὶ τῆς οἰκοδομῆς τοῦ τάφου χειροτονῆσαι τὸν δῆμον
16ἤδη τοὺς ἐπιμελησομένους πέντε ἄνδρας ἐξ Ἀθηναίων· ἐγγράψαι
17δὲ τὸ ψήφισμα τὸν γραμματέα τοῦ δήμου ἐν στήλαις δυσὶ καὶ
18ἐξεῖναι αὐτῶν θεῖναι τὴν μὲν ἐν Ἀκαδημ<ε>ίᾳ, τὴν δὲ ἐν Λυκείῳ·
19τὸ δὲ ἀνάλωμα τὸ εἰς τὰς στήλας γενόμενον μερίσαι τὸν ἐπὶ τῆς
20διοικήσεως, ὅπως <ἂν> ἅπαντες ἴδωσιν, ὅτι ὁ δῆμος ὁ τῶν Ἀθηναίων
21τοὺς ἀγαθοὺς καὶ ζῶντας τιμᾷ καὶ τελευτήσαντας· ἐπὶ δὲ
22τὴν οἰκοδομὴν κεχειροτόνηνται Θράσων Ἀνακαιεύς, Φιλοκλῆς
23Πειραιεύς, Φαῖδρος Ἀναφλύστιος, Μένων Ἀχαρνεύς, <Σ>μίκυθος

1Unter dem Archon Arrhenides; die Akamantis hatte die fünfte
2Prytanie inne; im Maimakterion am einundzwanzigsten, dem dreiundzwanzigsten
3(Tag) der Prytanie; Haupt-Volksversammlung; von den Vorsitzenden leitete die Abstimmung
4Hippon S.d. Kratistoleos aus dem Demos Xypete und seine Mitvorsitzenden. Thrason
5S.d. Thrason aus dem Demos Anakaia stellte den Antrag:
6Da Zenon S.d. Mnaseas aus Kition viele Jahre um der Philosophie willen
7in der Stadt war und in allem Übrigen stets ein trefflicher Mann war,
8insbesondere aber die zur Zusammenkunft mit ihm gekommenen Jugendlichen zur
9Tugend und Besonnenheit auffordernd, zum Besten hin führte, indem er sein eigenes
10Leben für alle zum Beispiel machte, das den Lehren entsprach,
11die er unterrichtete, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen das Volk: dass man belobige
12Zenon S.d. Mnaseas aus Kition und bekränze mit goldenem Kranz gemäß
13dem Gesetz wegen seiner Leistung und seiner Gelehrsamkeit; dass man ihm auch
14ein Grabmal errichte im Kerameikos auf öffentliche Kosten; dass für die Anfertigung des
15Kranzes und die Errichtung des Grabmals das Volk durch Handheben
16sogleich fünf Männer unter den Athener wähle, die dafür Sorge tragen werden; dass einschreibe
17diesen Beschluß der Sekretär des Volkes auf zwei Stelen und
18es erlaubt sei, von diesen die eine in der Akademie aufzustellen, die andere im Lykeion;
19dass die entstandenen Kosten für die Stelen der Finanzverwalter
20begleiche, damit alle sehen, dass das Volk der Athener
21die Guten sowohl zu Lebzeiten ehrt als auch im Tode. ‒ Für die
22Errichtung wurden durch Handheben gewählt: Thrason aus dem Demos Anakaia, Philokles aus dem
23Demos Peiraieus, Phaidros aus dem Demois Anaphlystos, Menon aus dem Demos Acharnai, Smikythos
24aus dem Demos Sypalettos, Dion aus dem Demos Paiania.

2Akamantis. On the twenty-first of Maimakterion, the twenty-third
3of the prytany. Principal Assembly. Of the presiding committee Hippon
4son of Kratistoleos of Xypete was putting to the vote and his fellow presiding committee members.
5Thrason son of Thrason of Anakaia proposed:
6since Zenon son of Mnaseas of Kition in his many years spent
7in the city in philosophy continued in all other respects to be a good man,
8and encouraging the young men who entered his school
9to excellence and moderation he urged them on to the best,
10setting out by his own life an example to all in its adherence to the precepts
11that he taught, for good fortune, the People shall decide: to praise
12Zenon son of Mnaseas of Kition and to crown him with a gold crown according
13to the law for his excellence and moderation, and to build for him
14a tomb in the Kerameikos at public expense; and the People shall elect
15five men from the Athenians to manage the making
16of the crown and the building of the tomb; and the secretary
17of the People shall inscribe the decree on two stelai, and
18it shall be permitted to place one in the Academy and the other in the Lyceum;
19and the administrator shall allocate the expenditure accrued
20for the stelai in order that all may know that the Athenian People
21honours good men, both living and dead. For
22the building (of the tomb) were elected Thrason of Anakaia, Philokles of Peiraieus,
23Phaidros of Anaphlystos, Menon of Acharnai, Smikythos of Sypalettos,
24Dion of Paiania.
